5 Ways Your Company Can Plan for a Year of Health & Wellness Success

People often use New Years as a time to reflect and restart. For many, this reflection means committing to healthier choices and practices in their daily lives. And these days, more and more companies are doing the same! It’s clear that health and wellness have become not just a priority, but a necessity for a more engaged and productive workforce. The result? Companies are putting more thought into their employee wellness programs. Below are some strategies to use the new year as an opportunity to kick off your company’s health and wellness plan (and how we can help!).

Commit to a plan.

Before you make any moves, commit fully to making health and wellness a priority for the upcoming year. It might sound like an obvious first step, but an employee wellness program that is intentionally planned runs smoother than playing employee wellness catch-up later in the year. If you need to garner support from your team, try suggesting a platform that is proven to increase employee engagement and productivity to help you out!

Use technology for good!

A whopping 77% of Americans use smartphones. And if we’re not mindful of our usage, staring at the screen can consume much of our day. While we want to give ourselves time away from screens, being strategic about how we use our screens can make all the difference. Studies show that employees and teams that leveraged technology for health and wellness reported more positive perceptions of team collaboration and client relationships. So encourage your employees to get off Instagram and get on a wellness app (we’re fans of this one!).

Make healthy options readily available.

Once the choice has been made to commit to healthy initiatives, make sure you’re giving your employees the opportunities and resources to engage! Have a standing weekly meeting? Try walking and talking around the block. Donuts every Friday in the kitchen? Throw some fruit alongside them. Is there a gym close by? Ask them for an employee discount -- you’d be surprised how many gyms offer this benefit if you inquire!

Motivate and incentivize

The evidence is out, a healthy workplace is a happy one. But plans and procedures don’t bring change on their own. Employees need to feel encouraged and supported to participate in their health and wellness journey. First, ask yourself what managers are doing to inspire staff to use available resources. Could they carve out some time to spread the word about a wellness challenge? Givhero uses social good to drive engagement, so employees are consistently motivated by causes they care about.
