5 Mental Health at Home Tips

Thanksgiving season might look a bit different for you this time around. But as we continue to navigate the changing tides of 2020, there are ways to make this year just as meaningful.

1. Volunteer virtually

Just like working from home, there are plenty of opportunities to volunteer from home as well. Making time to contribute has ripple effects and it can make you feel more grounded and happier. Check out this list of ways to volunteer virtually, and if you join Givhero, you can give back simply by participating in your health and wellness. We call that a win-win!

2. Spruce up your space

Did you know that your physical environment directly correlates with your well-being? So even if you’re not entertaining for your usual crew, try cultivating an environment that evokes feelings of joy for you. Gords on the stairs? Yup! Pumpkins above the pantry? Nice! Turn your home office into a rainforest? We love it!

3. Check on friends and fam

Due COVID-19 restrictions, many people will be spending Thanksgiving differently this year. If you’re fortunate enough to be celebrating the holidays with others, don’t forget to check on those whose Turkey day might look a bit different. Maybe even set up a virtual spot at the table for friends and family living elsewhere!

4. Send a thank-you note

You don’t need to receive a gift to send a thank you note. Instead, try reflecting back on the year -- are there certain people who had a positive impact on you? Tell them! The act of writing a thank-you note has mental health benefits for both the giver and receiver.

5. Participate in Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday is the international holiday for charitable giving, and it’s on December 1st this year. If you’re interested in celebrating, there are nonprofits that could use your support now more than ever. Learn more on the different ways to give here.

6. Gratitude meditation

Gratitude is something that benefits us any time of the year, but why not up your gratitude game in honor of Turkey day? While any kind of mindful awareness is beneficial, mindfulness geared towards gratitude has its own set of unique benefits. Here are some meditations to get you started!

7. Thank yourself!

It’s been quite the year! If you haven’t done so already, now is the perfect time to show yourself some love. We see you doing your best to readjust to the times, and you’re doing great. And if we can help with your health and well-being journey, just let us know.
