7 Ways to Connect With Your Community and Embrace the New Season

Fall is officially here. The heat of summer is subsiding and the crisp cool air is getting cooler by the day! As the weather changes, the instinct for many of us is to go inside. We start to spend more time in our home, curling up with a good book or movie. And while that can provide some much-needed rest and relaxation, it’s important to resist the urge to isolate yourself, which can lead to loneliness and even anxiety and depression. Here are 7 ways to connect with your community and embrace the new season!

1. Meet up with friends

Socializing can sometimes be hard to prioritize compared to all of the other commitments we have. And let’s face it, after the workday we’re tired! However, making time to socialize has an array of health benefits from improving your physical health to lowering your risk of dementia! So go on, set up that Saturday lunch date.

2. Interact with nature

Did you know that even a brief encounter with nature can impact your mind and body? Taking the time to go outside can help reduce anger and stress and increase pleasant feelings. You can even feel these effects in colder weather, all you need is some extra layers.

3. Connect with colleagues outside of work

Studies show that good relationships at work can improve morale and productivity. Motivating each other through wellness initiatives is a great way to bond and inspire healthy behavior. Don’t know where to find a wellness initiative? Check out Givhero app for some inspiration

4. Join a team

A great way to marry physical with emotional care is to join a community team or league. A quick Google search will lead you to plenty of options near you. Encourage friends and family to join in with the “team” feature in Givhero to create a goal you can work towards together.

5. Fall cleaning!

Yes, we know that “spring cleaning” is the usual saying, but sorting through the clutter (during any season!) not only creates space but also provides an opportunity to donate lightly used items to your local charity (an organization like A Wider Circle is a great place to make a donation!).

6. Buy local

Exploring your neighborhood establishments is a great way to meet people in your community and support the local economy. Try checking out your local farmers’ market for starters. Fresh organic food is a bonus!

7. Commit to a cause!

Because we believe that everything is better when there’s meaning behind it. Achieve your personal exercise goals and do it for something you care about! Check out the Givhero app to see how you can get involved.
